Donate Materials

All branches of ARLS accept donations of new or gently used items. If you have a large volume of books, 2 boxes or more, please call the branch you intend to donate to and give us a heads up. Donations are evaluated according to the library’s collection development policy. Items that cannot be added to the collection are handled by the Friends of the Library for their bookstore or recycled by volunteers. All proceeds from the sale of donated materials are used by the Friends to support the library. The library has limited storage space for donations and asks that patrons please be considerate in the amount donated.

The library does NOT accept the following:

  • Magazines
  • Audio cassettes, video cassettes, record albums
  • Reader’s Digest Editions
  • Encyclopedias
  • Software
  • Textbooks
  • Non-Fiction items older than 5 years
  • Items that are moldy, torn, bug-infested, discolored, stained, smelly, or missing pages or a cover.
Books that are unsuitable for donation can often be recycled locally! Check with your local recycling provider and see.
